David Lutheran Church is dedicated to the idea that all its members can participate in the church's song in some manner. To that end, in 2005 we have recently purchased a 6 foot 3 inch Schimmel grand piano to share the sanctuary with our pipe organ. We also have 2 sets (a 4½ octave and a 3-octave) of Schulmerich handbells and a set of Malmark handchimes, besides the color-coded bells and boomwhackers that we use with children's choirs. We have also added several percussion instruments to our program, including a set of three congas, timpani, and electronic drums. We also use other instruments (drums, bass, flute, oboe, trumpet, various other brass, and synthesizer) when called for to enhance our choir anthems or congregational song. The following musical ministries at David provide opportunities for praising God through music to all age groups. We welcome all who wish to find an expression of their faith through the talents they have been blessed with, whether vocal or instrumental. Most of our music groups rehearse on Wednesdays or Thursdays, from September through May.
Adult ChoirsNo previous experience required to participate! Our focus is on all types of music (usually 3-5 octaves of moderate difficulty) appropriate for worship, with additions such as percussion, keyboard, and/or organ. Rehearsal: Thursdays 6:00 - 7:00
p.m. in the sanctuary ADULT (Senior) CHOIR Our 20+- member choir enjoys presenting a variety of styles of music by such composers as Joe Martin, Pepper Choplin, J. Paul Williams, Jay Althouse, Lloyd Larson, Mark Hayes, and Don Besig and Nancy Price, to name a few. We often enhance our musical offerings with bass, drums, congas, flute, trumpet, violin, or other instruments. We also use choir members as cantors to intone or lead parts of our liturgy, such as the psalms, adding another musical expression to the congregation's song. Rehearsal: Wednesdays 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the choir room. On weeks with mid-week services scheduled on Wednesday we start at approximately 8:00 p.m. after the service for about an hour. Youth ChoirsThis year our children will be learning songs to emphasize the monthly themes in Sunday School. Age ranges and divisions for choirs will be determined based on numbers and abilities of children in attendance, keeping developmental levels in mind. We hope to present music for worship services at 929 and the family service monthly. It is our hope that a select group of capable and willing children will wish to pursue further vocal opportunities on Wednesday evenings following Young Ringers rehearsal. This group was started last year for those children who had little or no experience reading music or ringing bells. They began the year with parents as mentors and after a month or so were able to find their own handchimes, mark their music, and count out and play simple songs from the written score. They played along with orchestration on a CD, other bells that parents played, and other instruments such as flute and piano. This year we will further develop our reading and ringing skills and learn more difficult music. Rehearsal: Thursday 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. We are a team of singers, musicians and sound technicians with a heart and passion for worship. This is a multi-generational group that loves to lift their music in heartfelt praise and has an uplifting and joyful time doing so. The songs that we select include updated versions of classic hymns; worship standards; and contemporary worship songs, as well as original material. We are always on the lookout for new members and are flexible on time commitments. Rehearsal: Thursday nights at 7:15
