The following organizations at David Lutheran Evangelical Church provide opportunities for the youth of our congregation to learn and grow in Christ, enjoy Christian fellowship and to provide service to our church and community.
JAM (JESUS and ME) YOUTH GROUP The JAM or "Jesus and Me" Youth Group, established in 1999, is for all children first grade through fourth grade. The goal of the group is to develop and grow our youth's relationship with God. The scheduled meeting time for this group is the 4th Sunday of each month. Our youth have a wonderful time learning more about Jesus and learning new ways to serve the Lord. This past year started off with a much needed service activity for our church - sharpening the pencils in the sanctuary. The next month, the youth had a great time carving pumpkins and playing games at the Swartzlander's house. In January, the pencils in our sanctuary were sharpened again. Easter baskets were made and shared with the residents of Winchester Place in March. The next month, the youth made roses out of Hershey Kisses to share with the residents of Winchester Place. Each visit to the nursing home was such a blessing to our youth. The Holy Spirit filled their hearts, and allowed them to share their joy for the Lord. In May, JAM and God's Gang went to Magic Mountain for a fun filled day of activities and fellowship. June's activity was filled with many games, including a water balloon game. Be sure to ask the youth about "The Fruit of the Spirit" tag. JAM and God's Gang had another joint activity swimming and playing at the Swartzlander's house. This youth group also participated in the all youth/all congregation Christmas caroling and ice skating activities. Our last activity for this church year is an all youth activity at the Canal Winchester Pool. is the JAM Youth Advisor. God’s Gang is a youth group is for all children fourth through sixth grade. We meet on the third Sunday of each month. Our group’s goal is to further develop the youth’s relationship with God as well as spread the Gospel to all those we are in contact with. We alternate service projects with fun activities from month to month. Each activity contains the following components: devotion, fellowship, and food. Our events include fall and spring clean-up at the church, bowling, making Christmas Cards and Valentine Cards for our homebound, delivering the Christmas Cards and some cookies while Christmas Caroling to our homebound, sharing devotions with the residents at Winchester Place, collecting can goods for the local food pantry, and enjoying a bike ride at Three Creeks. With each event, we pray that each participant grows in their personal relationship with God and that they become more comfortable with sharing their faith with others around them. We would like all fourth through sixth grade youth that are David Lutheran Church members, potential members, and visitors to join us for these activities. is the God's Gang Advisor. JUNIOR LUTHERAN YOUTH ORGANIZATION (JLYO) This year was once again an active year for the seventh and eighth graders. Not only did we have wonderful instruction in Confirmation by Pastor Lawrence and the small group leaders, but we also fit in a service or play activity once a month. Some of our events were making cookies, valentines, and pumpkin rolls for our homebound members. We went caroling in December and ice skating in February with the congregation. We made care packages for our college student members. We also had a lock in which contained devotions, bowling, and homemade pizza. We did a wonderful job in the spring with the church yard clean up. is the JLYO Advisor. LUTHERAN YOUTH ORGANIZATION (LYO) LYO is the organization for students in 9th through 12th grades. We have the potential for about 35 members from several school districts, including Canal Winchester, Bloom-Carroll, Teays Valley, Pickerington, and Groveport-Madison. Our goal is to structure our activities in such a way that we learn skills to spread the Gospel, learn to treat one another as Christ would have us, and to enjoy fellowship and service with our peers. All are welcome, and our youth frequently bring friends from a variety of churches and communities. We meet 2 to 3 times a month on Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Our meetings are known as "Food, Fun and Fellowship". We begin with food donated by one of our member's family. Next, we play games for awhile, skits or group games. Certain Sunday's we have a group lesson and Bible study. We always end our time together in song and prayer. Throughout the year, the high school youth provide service work within and outside the church. We paint, baby-sit, assist in congregational dinners and events and host holiday dinners. We assist in food gathering for the local food pantries, devotions at our local senior center, conduct local roadside cleaning, and assist in carrying donations for needy families during the holidays. Last summer, we went on a mission trip to Leetonia, Ohio. Our work involved hand cleaning and polishing brass and wood of a beautiful 100 year old church, landscaped the grounds and painted the parsonage. We also worked at a local food pantry. We look for where Christ is working and join Him. In July 2006, our youth attended a national youth gathering in San Antonio, Texas. We had several fund-raising events, including the ever popular Michigan vs. Ohio State Buckeye sub sale and Super Bowl sub sales. We use these monies to attend events, serve others, and have fun! We also organize fellowship events at the spur of the moment. About every 6 weeks, we have a Praise and Worship Service that we organize. This is a time for our group to praise God through song, testimony, and fellowship with one another. There is so much talent within our youth, these events are amazing and should not be missed. We are committed to Christ and one another. We are learning the path God wants us to take. Join us. is the LYO Advisor |
